Oil and Gas

ConocoPhillips

PROJECT: BAYU UNDAN PLATFORM
INDUSTRY: OIL & GAS
LOCATION: TIMOR SEA & DARWIN, NORTHERN TERRITORY

The Client

ConocoPhillips is the world’s largest independent exploration and production company, based on proved reserves and production of liquids and natural gas. ConocoPhillips explore for, develop, and produce crude oil and natural gas globally.

The Bayu Undan oil and gas field is located in the Timor Sea north of Darwin. Two fixed platforms form the Central Processing facility which is linked to a wellhead platform and floating storage and offtake (FSO) vessel. Gas is piped from Bayu Undan to the ConocoPhillips LNG plant in Darwin via a 502 kilometre pipeline where it is processed and loaded to LNG ships for export to Japan.

The Challenge

CSE Crosscom is contracted by ConocoPhillips to provide and support telecommunications systems on the Bayu Undan Platform and the Darwin LNG Plant in the Northern Territory. All systems provided for both locations had to meet stringent oil and gas requirements and be robust to perform reliably in an offshore oil and gas environment. ConocoPhillips also required support and maintenance services for their offshore platform telecommunications systems to ensure reliable 24/7 operations for the platform.

The Solution

CSE Crosscom was contracted to provide point to point microwave and digital radio systems for both the offshore and onshore facilities. The solution included the following components:

  • Offshore and Onshore Microwave Links
  • Trunked Radio System for the LNG Plant
  • TETRA digital radio system for offshore platform including the rental of temporary facilities for changeover period

CSE Crosscom is also contracted to provide on site maintenance and support for the LNG Plant and the offshore platform, and provides specially trained embedded technical personnel for the offshore facility

The following are key areas of ongoing maintenance for both the offshore and onshore facilities.

  • CCTV
  • PAGA
  • VHF Marine and Aeronautical Radio Systems
  • Fibre Optic Network and WAN/LAN Systems
  • UHF Digital Radio
  • Microwave

CSE Crosscom has a strong relationship with ConocoPhillips and has been maintaining its systems since 2004. CSE Crosscom has also recently been contracted to maintain ConocoPhillips APLNG Facility in Gladstone, Queensland.
